VNA of Cleveland is one of the largest and most respected home health agencies in the United States and chose TouchPointCare as a cost effective and clinically valuable alternative to more expensive equipment based telemonitoring. Their decision to implement TouchPointCare came after years of using telemonitoring equipment without believing they were receiving a positive return on their investment (ROI). After reviewing literature from CMS and other research indicating that phone monitoring provides similar clinical benefits at lower costs, VNA chose TouchPointCare and began using the system in June, 2008.

A study on diabetes might advertise potential participants to call into a toll-free number. Callers will respond to a series of questions regarding their condition, behavior or other factors. Potential participants will be screened to identify those participants who match the prescribed criteria. At the start of the study, participants might be asked to utilize home monitoring equipment and provide feedback to the system for several vital statistics that help them self-manage their disease, (glucose, weight, blood pressure, etc), and do so several times each day. In addition, participants might be asked a series of questions related to the objectives of the research study, to probe for any possible side effects or other symptoms, to ensure compliance with the study or to ask questions about related issues (medication, diet, exercise, etc).
TouchPointCare's system will help identify study participants. It will also help guide them through study protocols, track daily vital sign measurements and report on any questions asked regarding signs or symptoms of their disease as well as record any possible side effects of treatment. Assessing these signs frequently can reduce the number of office visits required to assess efficacy and safety, and allow for faster decisions resulting in a product getting to market sooner and safely.
